The redevelopment of the Shivaji Stadium bus terminus near Connaught Place will be started by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). Bids for the project, whose estimated cost is ₹64 crore, were invited on Monday. The infrastructure, which will be renovated by the council, will contain office and commercial buildings as well as a bus terminal. According to NDMC officials who are aware of the situation, the project should be finished in three years. This was said on Monday.

The new facility, according to NDMC vice-chairman Satish Upadhyay, will have a large underground parking area, a taxi hub, and a food court. It will also feature a modern, environmentally friendly frame building that meets international standards with green elements.

The terminus will be a first-of-its-kind combination of commercial space in Delhi-NCR with a sizable transportation hub, restaurant area, and parking garage, according to an NDMC official. The complex will have approximately 29,671 square feet of commercial office space. Within two to three years of the project’s start, we want to recoup the initial input cost. The official continued, “The council intends to generate ₹2.4 crore in monthly revenue from the rentals of these commercial spaces.”

The official stated that there will be twice as many parking spaces in the complex as there are now. “It is a framed building with thick windows to minimize power use and let in a lot of natural light inside the complex. To meet its electricity needs, solar panels are installed all the way around the roof. We have chosen to construct covered waiting spaces with amenities like drinking water and a cafeteria because the passengers are currently required to stand in an open area, the official stated.

In addition to building vacuum dewatered trimix roads, NDMC will employ granite for flooring, wood plastic composite doors and windows, stainless steel railings, and a false ceiling.A new eating zone, ticket vending area, and public convenience block are all part of the overall proposal. The office space will be offered on the first and second floors,” the official added.

According to the renovation project report, the facility would feature two basement levels for parking, a ground floor for the bus terminal, and two higher floors for commercial space. It will also be handicapped friendly throughout. The plan also states that the parking lot will have electric charging stations and room for 113 cars. The Shivaji stadium complex occupies 4,235.7 square meters, and when it is developed, the agency intends to add 2,757 square meters of office space and 5,702 square meters of underground space.

According to an NDMC official, bicycle sharing stations, auto-rickshaws, taxis, and public transportation would all be seamlessly integrated into the Shivaji terminal transport hub. Moreover, NDMC attempted a related initiative in 2018–19, and the first cost was estimated to be around ₹39 crore but no tenders were received.
